Kellen is Five!

Kellen is 5 years old today!

Kellen has really matured this year. We did not miss the "3s" at all and have enjoyed seeing Kellen become more and more of a little boy. 

At 5, Kellen is...

• still as stubborn as ever. We have a hard time convincing him to do things he does not want to do.
• a laid back, happy kid who we can take anywhere with us.
• great at puzzles, tangrams, and building legos.
• A tough kid with a very high tolerance for pain!
• in love with Planes, Cars, Milo and Otis, the Lego Movie, Wild Krats, Octonauts and The Magic School Bus.
• hesitant to write or color. He can copy letters and words at school, write his name, and has finally started drawing recognizable images. It is crazy to me that in a year, he'll be able to write sentences!
• a great reader. He loves reading and has started reading level 1 and 2 books. Kellen can recognize some sight words and we have started reading our first chapter book together, Stuart Little.
• a great swimmer and skier. He did great with ski lessons this year and is really starting to take off with his swimming. 
• so much better speaking. After 7 months of speech therapy, he is completely understandable and developmentally up to speed. 
• HUGE! Kellen is towering over his friends at school and keeping up with his older friends who are 6 or 7. He is wearing 6/7 or boys small. The first thing everyone says about him is, WOW he's tall. 
• getting better at riding his bike. He can ride a few miles on his training wheels with minimal help from us. 
• a great big brother to Jae. He does such a good job playing with her and watching out for her. He constantly tells us he can't wait for Jae to get older so he can play with her. 
• a picky eater. It isn't better and as frustrating as ever. He loves burritos, mac & cheese, grilled cheese, and hamburgers.
• all about having fun on his own terms doing what is familiar. He likes movies and books he's seen/read a million times before. He likes going to places he's already been. He is very hesitant to try new things but always will.
• starting Kindergarten in the fall!!!
• 48.6 lbs (89%) and 47 in (99%). BMI is 51.
