We started off our Labor Day weekend downtown at the CU vs CSU game. The kids were good and CU won, a successful game.
We were anxious to spend some more time in the mountains so Saturday morning we headed back up. We played near Dillon Reservoir Saturday afternoon.
We spent Saturday night in Breckenridge exploring, eating dinner and dodging the rain.
Since Steve's parents were there with us, we were able to go for a real hike Sunday just the two of us. We decided to tackle Buffalo Mountain outside of Silverthorn.
We saw the sun rising over Lake Dillon and some blue sky.
We hiked just under 2 miles in an hour up to the "boulder field."
I read that this boulder field was .6 miles long (or, straight up). It was brutal. Made worse by cold, wind, rain and snow. We felt pretty accomplished to get up it.
After the boulder field, this was the view of the summit. Another mile or so hiking a steep trail.
More rocks to hike over, at least they were smaller.
We made it to the top. 12,777 feet. It was cloudy, windy, and rainy. We posed for a picture and headed back down.
On our way back down, the clouds parted just enough to see Lake Dillon.
Climbing down was just as slow and hard. Our legs were shaky!
This is the view of Buffalo Mountain from our street. You can see the boulder field on the right side. It took us 6 hours round trip, GPS mapped it at just over 7 miles round trip and a 3000 foot elevation gain.
While we were hiking, Kellen and Jae got to show Grandma and Grandpa T. their favorite hike to Lily Pad Lake, which we could see from our trail.
Back to Denver early Monday morning to hit up the ski sales. Now we're ready for ski season...
