We were able to spend a week in Kauai this year with my brother and his family. We had a blast exploring the North side of the island with everyone.
We woke up bright an early the first day and it didn't take us long to head to the beach. J.D. rented paddle boards and a surf board for the week.
Beach Day #1: Hanalei
Beach Day #2: Tunnels
We had a high surf warning almost every day we were there. Not a huge deal but the waves crashing on the shore at Tunnels were strong and the kids had fun rolling around, getting beat up by them. We also saw a turtle swimming around.
Getting coffee in Hanalei with uncle J.D.
Monday night, the resort hosted a Mai Tai pool party. It was kind of rainy and they were very generous with their Mai Tais!
Beach Day #3: back to Hanalei to boogie board and surf
Ready for a sushi dinner in town.
On Wednesday, we took a break from the beach and rented kayaks on the Hanalei River. J.D.'s family paddle boarded up the river and we met up. We traveled about 5 miles total.
We got Haylie to baby sit so the adults could check out Kauai Brewing in Lihue
Thursday, Jae and I hung out at the pool while everyone else hiked the Kalalau Trail to Hanakapi'ai Falls along the Napali Coast. The super muddy hike was over 8 miles and took them about 9 hours. We are so proud of the kids!
Everyone needed a low key day on Friday. The kids played at Kamalani Playground and swam at Lyndgate Park near Lihue. Everyone got to snorkle and see lots of fish. We topped out the afternoon with shaved ice and then got dressed up for dinner at The Dolphin in Hanalei.
We somehow squeezed in roasting marshmallows after dinner.
We had to check out of our rooms Saturday morning and then drove to Poipu on the South side of the island. We saw the "Sprouting Horn" and lots of turtles at our final stop before heading to the airport.
What a fantastic week! The kids had so much fun together. We are so lucky to have the opportunity to keep going back to such a beautiful and fun location!
