We have not been camping in a VERY long time. So long, in fact, the neighboring campers commented on how new and clean all of our equipment was! We reserved a prime camping spot in January at the base of Mt. Princeton. It was exactly was we needed for our first camping trip with the kids. After we arrived and set up camp, we explored Chalk Creek behind our camp site.
The dogs did ok. Trinity was terrified of chopping wood and the fire so she hung out in the bushes or tied to the car. Kona liked to wander off and we kept finding her at neighboring camp sites getting pet by strangers. They were great sleeping with us in the tent though and never barked.
My favorite part of the weekend was when Jae was collecting rocks and pine cones to give to Trinity. I looked over and saw her chewing on something.
Me: "What are you eating?"
Jae: "Rocks."
The kids loved the fire and "roasting" marshmallows. The quotes are being used because they usually just stuck the marshmallow on the stick and ate it cold.
Our big hike for the weekend was on the Chalk Creek portion of the Colorado Trail. It was pretty steep but Kellen made it about 1.5 miles before we turned back.

Coming down the trail we ran into Kim, Patrick, Karina and Aliana! Small world. We ended up meeting them at the pool too.
We swam at the Mt. Princeton Hot Springs pool. It was cloudy and cool but the water was warm and it felt good to rinse off after the hike. Everyone loved the water slide. Zoom into the pictures to see the huge smiles on the kids' faces!
Kellen stayed up until it got dark our 2nd night because he really wanted to use the lantern. At dusk, we saw a bunch of bats flying around. Kellen got a kick out of them.
The kids slept awesome and were so cute cuddled up together in their new sleeping bags. I'm totally jealous...Steve and I did not sleep as well.
We finished our trip in Salida. We got to play games with Grandma Givan, eat lunch on the river and watch some boats.
