Jae's Five Months Old!

Jae is Five Months Old Today!

This month marks many changes to our daily routine but Jae is proving to be a happy, laid back baby ready for anything! I used to consider Jae much more opinionated and dramatic than Kellen was at her age but she is growing out that and is pretty much happy all the time. Everyone at her school comments on how smiley she is and how she never cries. She is really enjoying discovering toys and new skills. Jae has found her feet and likes to grab and study them. She can roll over from her back to front with the help of pushing her legs against the floor. She also started sitting up this past weekend. She is very unstable but really understanding how to balance. She loves chewing on, batting at, and holding toys. She is also enjoying her exersaucer and is starting to stand and bounce in it. I have noticed Jae making funny faces which Kellen did when he was teething so we'll see what happens there.

She is taking 3 6 oz bottles at school and nursing when she wakes up and then twice in the evening. She has been a little stuffed up this past week and waking up to nurse early morning too but I think it is just a phase. Our pediatrician spoke to us about new allergy research indicating that starting solids closer to 4 months might help build up tolerance to allergens in food. He also said to give Jae some peanut butter before 6 months to help prevent peanut allergies. We aren't really concerned about allergies and weren't ready to deal with feeding solids in our new routine this past month but it was good information to think about. We'll probably give her a taste of some foods coming up this month.

Jae is still taking cat naps during the day but is falling asleep for the night around 8:00 pm and usually sleeping through the night until I wake her up at 6:00 am to get ready for school. The past few weeks, she is getting up in the early morning to eat but I think it may have to do with me going back to work. I might try to give her bigger bottles during the day to see if that helps. I do not need to nurse her to sleep and will fall asleep on her own in her napper or crib so we can't ask for more than that!

She is a big girl! I need to pack away all of her 3-6 month clothes because I don't think I can shove her in them anymore. She is wearing 6-12 month clothes as we transition into fall here and I'm buying 12-18 month things for the cooler weather. Her hair is starting to grow in. its pretty fuzzy right now and I don't think its going to be blond. She has some cradle cap going on so hopefully her hair will cover it up soon.

Jae loves watching Kellen and he can make her laugh by doing pretty much anything. He is interacting more with her now that she acknowledges him. He likes to give her toys and try to get her to play with him. I love hearing him talk to her and comfort her when she's crying. He uses the sweetest voice when talking to her.

We are slowly forgetting about the fussiness and constant nursing when she was a newborn (not that she was ever really fussy) and really enjoying this happy, playful stage where she is learning how to do so much!
