Baby Jae Olivia

IT'S A GIRL!!!

Jae Olivia was born April 5, 2013 at 11:34 am. She was 9lbs 9oz, 21.5in long, and her head was 14 3/4in around....in other words, she was big!

 I was really hoping for a VBAC instead of a repeat c-section. I met with my midwife on Monday and she wasn't going to let me go past 41 weeks and induction was not an option. I decided to schedule a c-section Friday as my back up plan. Even though I had a week of minor contractions, nothing was happening and we went in Friday morning to meet our new baby. This experience was a million times better than when I had Kellen. Getting a spinal was so much easier than an epidural and has worn off quickly. Lutheran Hospital has been newly renovated so the OR and recovery room were vastly improved since Kellen was born. As it turns out, Jae's head was still very high and very large, she was also obviously a large baby so I don't think I was going to go into labor anytime soon and I think everything worked out for the best. 

 Jae is doing very well, she was super squishy and chubby after birth. I got to hold her skin to skin in the OR for a good amount of time and nursed her in the recovery room. Nothing was rushed and we had lots of time to bond. Her glucose was low and had to have a little formula to bring it up but since her levels have been normal and she is a champion nurser.

 Grandma Leigh, Grandma T., and Kellen were anxiously waiting to hear the news. Kellen got to meet his little sister as soon as we moved out of the recovery room. He was so excited and talked about his sister all last night and this morning. Glad he was right, I think he would have been seriously disappointed if it was a boy.

 Great Grandma Givan, Paula, Michele, and Grandpa T. all came over to meet Jae tonight.

We are thrilled to have a little girl who is so chubby and cute. My recovery has been really fast and I'm feeling good. The nerves and adrenaline have worn off and we are exhausted. We will most likely be in the hospital until Monday or Tuesday.
