It's a Boy!

The short version -
Kellen James Tamburini was born via c-section May 25, 2010 at 4:36 pm. He weighed 8 lbs 15.4 oz (Steve thinks the .4 is important) and was 22 in long. We are all doing well, sleep last night was rough but maybe we'll get some naps in today : ) Kellen is a name I have liked for a long time and and James is Steve's middle name. (If it had been a girl, her name would have been Kellan Elizabeth but let's face it, we weren't expecting a girl).
The TMI version -
I started having contractions Tuesday morning around 2:00 am. By 5:00 they were regular, about 5 min apart and 30 sec long. We had a scheduled doctors appointment at 9:00 so we hung out until then. At the doctor's I was checked and 1.5 cm but the doctor thought the baby was breech. We had an ultrasound to confirm and decided that turning him was pretty much out of the question because of size, position, and my fibroid. We headed over to Lutheran for a c-section. We were pretty stunned, not exactly what we had in mind when heading to the doctor. Other doctors had told me the baby was head down the prior weeks so we really weren't expecting this.
Arrived at the hospital around 10:00 and got situated. I had to wait for my breakfast to digest before they would perform the c-section but at the same time wanted to make sure my labor didn't progress too much. After the c-section was delayed a third time, I got an epidural (instead of a spinal tap right before surgery) which was the best choice I made. I was comfortable waiting around at this point and finally headed to the OR around 4:00.
Kellen was stuborn and really wedged into me, they worked on getting him out for about 20 min. It took so long to deliver him, he wasn't breathing when he was born. His apgar test was a 1 out of 10 but they gave him oxygen and cleaned him up and his score was raised to a 9. I headed to recovery where I met up with Steve and Kellen. We nursed for a bit and then went to our room around 7:00 to see all the family. My mom, Steve's mom and dad, JD, Alison, Haylie, Deaglan and Adalynn were all there. Joe and Beth came by for a visit later.
It was quiet a day, nothing we were expecting happened. The day also flew by, I can't believe how fast everything happened. By the time I went in for delivery, I was only dialated 2 cm so I'm not sure how well a vaginal birth would have worked if he had been head down. I think things worked out for the best and we are having fun getting to know our little boy!

I love that he looks like Steve!!!! Give daddy and big high five for me!!! We were looking at wedding photos last night - we are so happy for you two! Welcome to Mamahood! Sometimes it is like being in a tent in a rainforest all alone when the rain flap blows away - you awake from your light slumber only to have to go out in the wet cold to hammer down the stake alone; all the time wishing your partner was there to help! But don't worry there only one loud scream away! LOL! Hope my analogy provides you comfort during those long midnight feeds!
